I’ve been to Sin City (Las Vegas) with my brother about 10 times to do a little gambling, eat some great food and have a few beers (OK more than a few) and to be honest, it’s never even crossed my mind to workout when I’m there.
It doesn’t seem very ‘Vegasy’ to go waste an hour working out when you could be having fun and I don’t know where any of the gyms are anyway (they have gyms in Las Vegas?).
Since I never bring and workout equipment with me when I travel (does anyone really do that?) I figured that if I was going to workout it needed to be a quick and efficient – get in, get out – kind of affair that I wouldn’t dread.
The last thing I want to do is wait in line for a bunch of machines or piss away my morning on a cardio machine while listening to slot machine jackpots being won by little old ladies from Nebraska.
So I went on the hunt for a simple workout that met my criteria, and came across this little gem from Craig Ballantyne on his blog called the “Vegas Metabolic Workout”.
Even though the workout has Vegas in the title, and that’s where I plan on using it, you can use this routine in Hawaii or the Costa Rica… or at home when you’re pressed for time. It really doesn’t matter.
The workout consists of only (5) different exercises and should only take you 20-30 minutes if you keep moving and don’t waste a bunch of time socializing.
Do the following circuit four times, resting for 1 minute between circuits. Try not to rest between exercises, but take breaks when needed.
1) DB Swings (20)
2) Decline Push-ups (15)
3) DB Piston Row (10 ea)
4) Bodyweight Bulgarian Squats (1-1/2 rep style) (8 ea leg)
5) Elevated Push-ups (using a DB standing on its end) (8 ea)
6) DB Swings (20)
A quick workout like this will get your head cleared up, give you a shot of energy and will make you feel less guilty about indulging a bit later in the day which is inevitable in a town like Vegas.
Try this dumbbell workout the next time your on vacation or you’re pressed for time in the morning and let me know what you think.
